How To Get Your License
To get your Illinois real estate license, you need to meet a few requirements. First, you must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and have a Social Security number or taxpayer ID. Next, complete a 75-hour pre-license education course from an approved provider. For my 75-hour courses, I am using The CE Shop. So far, I really am enjoying these courses and the way that this provider has everything set up. They give you information and helpful resources and then they have you answer questions about the material as you move through the course. At the end of each unit, there is a unit exam to pass before moving on. This provider does a good job of showing you what you missed and how to improve. After that, you’ll need to pass the Illinois Real Estate Exam, which covers both state and national real estate topics. I haven't reached this stage yet but I am hoping to take the exam shortly after I graduate in the spring. Before taking the test, there will be a lot of exam prep to do as well. I will need to make sure to review all the information I learned in the courses and be able to apply it to the real world. Once you pass, you will have to apply for your broker’s license through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Finally, pay the required fees, and you'll be licensed to start practicing!
